Dear Parents and Guardians,
2009 was a successful year for SFCS in every way. We could not have achieved our goals without the hard work and commitment of so many faculty members, parents,
and students. I am particularly proud of the work the children have completed with their teachers. As 2010 begins, I would like to share some of the notable accomplishments of 2009 and to thank Monsignor Zamorski, the school faculty, staff and you, the parents of St. Francis Cathedral School (SFCS), for the support and partnership you have given us throughout this year in maintaining a commitment to excellence for our students and school community.
September Most families receive communication on-line through Powerschool, the Honeywell Instant Alert System and Constant Contact e-mail system. Kindergarten through 8th grade students began work on updated computers and software in the newly-dedicated Monsignor Alliegro Technology Lab. Enrollment reached 522 students.
October SFCS submitted a three-year Strategic Plan to the Diocese with input from parents, faculty and the School Advisory Council. The on-line computer writing program, Writing Roadmap, became fully operational for students in grades 4-8. SFCS students conducted what is believed to be the 79th Halloween Costume Parade as the school celebrates 81 years!
November Three students were selected to participate in the National Young Leaders State Conference. The Helping Hands Club collected more than 200 coats for needy families through the generosity of school families. Kindergarten performed a wonderful Thanksgiving Program re-enacting the experiences of the first colonists.
December Eighth graders took entrance exams for Catholic High Schools, with very positive (advance) results. Congratulations students! School families celebrated Christmas at the annual H.S.A. Christmas Dinner. Students throughout SFCS created Christmas decorations for Roosevelt Hospital. More than 250 hats, gloves and scarves were collected for the nearby Ozanam Family Shelter. The SFCS Chorus performed a Christmas Concert at the McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. Kindergarten through 2nd grade performed an inspiring Christmas Program for their parents and all our students.
On behalf of the SFCS faculty and staff, may our Lord’s peace and love be with you during this New Year.
Gratefully,

Barbara Stevens
Principal
