Led by Student Council advisors, Mrs. Angela Hajduk and Mrs. Jennifer Farrell, St. Francis students engaged in the democratic process of campaigning and election with their fellow students.
Along with beautiful campaign posters that adorned the school’s hallways, students, in the hope of becoming leaders of their school community, also delivered public speeches to their fellow students expressing support, love, and a desire to give back to the St. Francis School. During the campaign, friends and supporters of candidates shared candidate stickers and giveaways to help get their friends elected to this year’s student council.
After the campaign, the students went to the polls! In a very close race, Miss Madeline (Maddie) Patalano, 8th grader, was elected President of this year’s student council along with her new executive board.
Miss Madie Patalano shared her hopes as this year’s Student Council President. She said,“As President of the St. Francis Cathedral School Student Council, I’m excited to see us grow together—in our faith and as a community. My hope is that our faith will continue to help us grow because God is the reason why we are here.”
On Friday, October 3rd, the St. Francis Cathedral School hosted its annual Student Council Installation ceremony. Miss Maddie Patalano, along with her fellow elected student leaders, were installed as this year’s student council representative in front of parents, teachers, and their fellow students. As student leaders said their oaths publicly before their peers to serve their community, students gathered in prayer for their newly elected leaders.
At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. Jennifer Farrell, Middle School Mathematics teacher and Student Council advisor, shared, “We are extremely proud of the process we have gone through, and I’m looking forward to our new executive board, all of our liaisons, and class representatives to continue to be the light of this community and to shine bright in times of light and darkness.”
As a newly elected student council, led by Miss Patalano and the student council advisors, student council will provide the school community with social events, fundraising opportunities, service projects in the local community, and more fun and engaging activities for St. Francis students and staff.
